Fish and swim in summer, ski in winter, get away for a relaxing vacation any time of year. Our cottage is on a beautiful small lake, just 13 miles from Smugglers Notch ski area, in one of the most scenic parts of Vermont.
The cottage is large--house-size--with three bedrooms, one-and-a-half baths, a full-size kitchen including dishwasher, and separate dining and living areas. Laundry facilities are included. There is an enclosed, glassed-in porch with a wood-burning fireplace, and also an outdoor deck. There is a large yard, which includes a swing set, a fire pit for bonfires, and space for outdoor play. The master bedroom on the second floor opens out to a balcony.
The lake frontage on Metcalf Pond is across a quiet country road. It is shared with a second cottage that we own, but each cottage has its own dock. We supply a rowboat, canoe, kayak, and paddle boat.
The lake is shallow for some distance from shore, making it a safe place for kids to swim. Fishing is quite good, with smallmouth bass, occasional northern pike, and various panfish. Because of the small size of the lake, it's warm enough for swimming for a longer season than than with larger bodies of water.
Smugglers Notch is a world-class ski area, famous both for family skiing and for expert slopes. It is a 13-mile drive, but in exchange for that, your accommodations cost a fraction of what you would spend right at the slopes.
Reservations are for full weeks during the peak seasons of summer and fall foliage, but other times of year we can take reservations for shorter periods, with a two-day minimum.
